Performance of Open-Graded "Big Rock Mixes" in Tennessee and Indiana

Fred Fehsenfeld, Sr., of The Heritage Group wrote this classic, which was first published in 1988. It discusses the use of open-graded "Big Rock Mixes" for highways and interstates and explores the history of several such pavements that have performed especially well. Because of the lower surface area and higher void contact, these mixes require less asphalt cement than dense-graded mixes using smaller aggregates.
